This beautiful little girl is named Blythe. She is a 1 ½ yr. old, 65#, spayed Dalmatian mix. Her foster mom describes her as an “absolute sweetheart”. Blythe is a mix of Boxer, Pointer and Dalmatian and it is a mixture of all of these breeds that makes her the sweetheart that she is. Some people may read this and think, “YIKES!”, however these three breeds actually have a lot of traits in common.
Intelligence, devotion and loyalty, friendliness, affection (with a love for children) and a true friend to the whole family are just a few traits these breeds share. All three breeds are also energetic and should be challenged mentally as well as physically. They are strong minded and will try to run the show if they sense a “weaker” owner. All of these qualities would make Blythe an excellent pet for someone who is active and enjoys being involved with their dog. The intelligence, devotion and strong desire to be active and “please” her owner, makes Blythe and outstanding candidate for agility or flyball.
Blythe does not have any children in her foster home, but it is believed that she came from a home with kids. She should do well with older kids, but may have a bit too much energy for younger kids. Currently, Blythe shares her foster home with a younger male and a senior female. Her senior foster sister has degenerative myelopathy and breast cancer and Blythe is very respectful of that situation. Blythe gets along well with other dogs; however, she would not do well in a home that already has a dominant female. Blythe is not submissive or dominant and she has never been the instigator of a fight; she just doesn’t like to be bullied by other females and she will protect herself. We don’t know how she is with cats, but she loves to chase squirrels and that could be a good indicator as to how she would react to a cat.
Blythe knows some basic commands, but she still needs some more “practice” walking on a leash. She will get on furniture, but is respectful and will get down when told. She does have a tendency to get into the garbage and counter surf. She rides well in a car and she is both crate trained and safe to be loose in the house.
Please consider giving this sweet, sweet girl a forever home. She has a ton of love that she is just waiting to share with a special family. Blythe is being fostered in Michigan. 3/19/10
