SCDR just pulled this boy from a TN shelter today (1/27/10). He has a large mass on his back leg (you can see it in the photo) that needs to be removed and biopsied, he has several cuts and abrasions and he is heartworm positive. He is currently in the care of a wonderful vet but his medical care will cost over $1000.00. Please Make Your Tax Deductible Donation Today!
1/28/2010 Update: We are still waiting to give this poor boy a name but will have one by tomorrow. He had all of the masses removed today and got neutered. X-rays showed a healthy (but old) heart and lungs. No visable signs of heartworm disease or cancer. Did find some very abnormal looking tissue during the neuter so that too will be sent for pathology tests. Should have results next week. He should be going to his foster home tomorrow!
1/30/2010 Update: Our boy has a name! Tyler is now in his foster home. His foster dad Daryl says “He’s more alert today and he’s drinking water and eating a bit more also. He’s really gentle and loves to be touched. We’re trying to clean him up and make him comfortable, he sleeps most of the time which is probably a good thing.”
2/4/2010 Update: Great news! All of Tyler’s tumors are benign!!!! He will begin Heartworm treatment next week.
2/8/2010 Update: Unfortunately Tyler has had a bit of a set back. He has a parasite that is causing him to lose weight (weight he can’t afford to lose since he was already underweight when he came into rescue). So his heartworm treatment is being postponed until he gains at least 10-15 pounds.
5/1/2010: Tyler has finally gained enough weight and began his heartworm treatment. Unfortunately he had a bad reaction to it so we will have to lengthen the time of the treatment. Our hope is that he will be ready to go to his forever home around the end of July.
