The 101 Dalmatians Musical Background
PLEASE NOTE ALL OF THE DALMATIANS FROM THE 101 DALMATIANS MUSICAL HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!
Several months ago we were approached by Joel Slaven’s Professional Animals, Inc. (JSPA) to see if we would be interested in participating in the traveling theater production of “The 101 Dalmatians Musical” (this is NOT a Disney production; Disney does not have rights to the book and this musical is an interpretation of the book).
At first, we were cautious about the nature of this request and the potential for exploiting the breed for profit. However, after extensive research by Penny Jaffe (our Intake Coordinator), we learned this could be a wonderful opportunity to educate the public about the breed and truly give some of our rescued Dalmatians a new “leash” on life!
Joel Slaven is a renowned animal trainer who has close ties to Columbus, OH and is well respected for his animal training at the Columbus Zoo. As we got to know Joel and his dedicated staff of trainers, we learned first hand of his training techniques, the living conditions for the Dalmatians in the show and, most importantly, his dedication to educating the public about homeless animals. Our evaluation process has been a wonderful journey, and now, you will be able to see the end result!
